Simple and Healthy Pet Treat Recipes

We all love to spoil our pet’s with treats but have you ever thought about what is actually in your pet’s treats?

Take Milk Bones for example. A known and loved treat for decades for your dog it has Ground Whole Wheat, Wheat Flour, Meat and Bone Meal, Poultry By-Product Meal, Beef Fat (Preserved with BHA/BHT), Salt, Chicken Meal, Turkey By-Product Meal, Bacon Fat, Dicalcium Phosphate, Brewers Dried Yeast, Malted Barley Flour, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, D-Calcium.

I would guess that you glossed right over all those words because honestly, some of those words don’t really make any sense and there’s a lot going on there (that not even the full list!).

Here are 3 easy dog treat recipes for you to try at home!

  1. The first recipe is for the novice cooks out there (like me!). Peanut Butter Holiday Treats! For this recipe you’ll need 1 cup of mashed sweet potatoes, 1 cup whole wheat flour, and a 1/2 cup of peanut butter. Mix your ingredients and shape them into small (or large :D) cookie shapes and bake for 10 minutes at 350 F.

  2. This next recipe is great for a quick and cool treat for our hot summers. The ingredients you need are watermelon, raspberries & yogurt. You mix those three ingredients together and place them in an ice tray and just wait for them to freeze.

  3. We can’t forget about fall treats for our pups so you’re going to need one can of 100% pumpkin puree, one cup plain yogurt, an a half cup peanut butter and leave it in the freezer! It only uses three ingredients and takes less than fifteen minutes to prepare.

We also have a great recipe for kitty cats too!

  1. How to Make Salmon Cat Treats: You’ll need 10 oz. of canned salmon, 1 egg beaten, 2 cups whole flour

    • Pulse the canned salmon in a food processor and chop finely

    • Combine salmon, egg, & flour in stand up mixer until it forms a dough

    • Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface

    • Use a cookie cutter (I recommend a 3/4 inch cutter) to cut into pieces

    • Put the treats on a baking sheet & bake at 350°F for 20 minutes
